In Disney and Pixar’s “Soul,” Joe Gardner (voice of Jamie Foxx) is a middle-school band teacher whose true passion is playing jazz. When he gets lost in his music, he goes into “the zone,” an immersive state that causes the rest of the world to literally melt away.
What impressed me with this behind the scenes look is the care Disney used to capture the authenticity of the culture, more specifically, a “Real” Black man. This caused me to examine my characters. How authentic are they? And did I develop them to their fullest potential?
I have work to do lol/
Soul airs on Christmas on Disney streaming service
